I think i agree somewhat with your post, that in general when you do good, good things happen to you. Mostly i agree with Lana though, that there may not be direct correlation but giving and receiving. What’s up JD at I Do Things! I really don’t follow the law of attraction, the book, but I do think there is something to giving and receiving. I think Nicey on Clean House says when your hands are open to give, they are open to receive. That’s true.

You don’t think so Lana? Well yeah, that warm feeling does count for something and a number of studies have been done to show that givers prosper, financially and physically. When you give the part of the brain the controls pleasure is active.

I don’t think there’s any kind of correlation between giving & receiving, personally, & I’d experimented with it for years. Giving gives me that warm feeling inside, though, which still counts for something.

If you believe in the Law of Attraction (not necessarily what’s written in the book The Secret but the general philosophy), then you definitely receive more as you give more. Something about the universe and abundance and creating a flow of energy back and forth. Pretty interesting.

I tend to give money or material things more often than I give of myself. My time, my heart….those things I’m selfish about.

Jillian, I agree it does breed compassion and everything is not about you (not you) when you’re giving. I’m the same with my time…I rather pay someone else to do something than give up my time…that’s more precious than money. I do appreciate it though when people give up their time for me. I have things to work on, but like you said, it’s true.

I think giving makes you better as a person. It’s something that breeds compassion for your fellow man. I am also selfish when it comes to my time, but I’m more than willing to give money, blood, clothes, food, or whatever else I can. Just don’t expect me to give up a weekend or something (yes, this is bad. But at least it’s true!).
