Fall Back Spring Ahead

Are you a morning person or a night owl? The Wall Street Journal asked this question and their quiz confirmed my answer. I’m neither. I’m more like a brunch owl, I fall somewhere in between. For me getting up in the morning takes effort and occasionally, some tears. However, if I had to pick one of the two, I would say I’m a morning person. Here’s why:

My alarm is set for 5:30 and yes, I press snooze at least 10 times before I actually get up. Although my speech is limited to “good morning” and “fine”, I can still function but my wake up process happens gradually.

By 11:00 I’m on a roll and fully awake. I’m doing work, I’m having conversation, I’m a fully functioning adult up until 4:00, then I start to yawn. I see my pajamas dancing in my head, images of my bed float around in my mind, warm memories turn the corners of my lips. I’m ready for bed and the later the day gets, the crankier I become so I say my apologies up front. By the time I get home my vocabulary is reduced to sign language and grunting. Staying awake at nighttime is a challenge which caused me to self-diagnosed myself with SAD, when the sun goes down, so do I.

I do have a positive outlook toward DST, I’m not losing an hour, I’m gaining some sun. More daylight = more hours awake. Whether you are a morning person or a night owl, if you live in the US and your state participates in daylight savings time, don’t forget to turn your clocks one hour ahead.

Which one are you, a morning person or a night owl?

I, too, am neither type. I used to be a morning person, but then I worked straight night shifts for 14 years, which totally screwed me up. I was still a morning person, but I was having to come at it from the night before, so morning was my night, in a way. Blech.

I’m a Night Owl for sure. I have a screw loose somewhere that prevents me from even thinking about going to bed if I am engaged in a brain-stimulating activity. I’ve had 5 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours and I’m just now starting to wind back down at quarter to four in the morning.

Oh yeah, I am a definite night owl, always have been. I usually sleep a few hours a day and then stay up all night. I have most of my energy at night, and I just feel better. Of course it’s hard when your friends are on a different schedule.

I took the test and it confirms that I’m a morning person. I have no problem waking between 4:30-5:00AM, although the flipside is I’ll be asleep by 9:30PM. And, Jillian, it is hard if others are on a different schedule. My husband is a night owl, so there are a few hours in the day where he’s up and I’m down, and vice versa.

Lana, actually I used to be a night owl, but something happened and now the night is not my friend. Now I’m in between. I have already run out of steam. I don’t have to be sleep, but I need to be in the bed, at least by 9:00, out by 10.

Michael, 5 hours sleep!! I would soooo be on the news right now if that were me. Oh no.

Jillian, you too. A night owl? My energy must be solar powered, it has to be.

Kathy, I’m not surprised, but you have me beat there, 4:30-5:00 it’s still dark, right? Yep, it’s hard when you don’t share the same schedule as your spouse. I’m so evil at night, I shut the house down and if anything moves, I make it stop. I used to wake up to find the phone unplugged and off the hook. Never remembered doing it. lol

I really am an early afternoon person. That’s
the time my brain functions at its best. Way back
I used to schedule my work related appointments in the afternoons.

But now a days, blogging and all, I work from 7 p.m. till 2 in the morning. I don’t know how I could keep up with
that kind of a schedule though :-)

    Cheers!

LotusFlower, the afternoon works…it’s a great time of day for me too, but if the sun is up, I can be too.

My brain is fully functioning after 2pm although I wish I could sleep at 10pm and wake up at 5am. I’m not a morning person at all.

I can “see” that in you Robert…actually you seem like someone who doesn’t sleep…you run on your own clock, not the suns time.

I cant sleep that late. Even on the weekends, I do have to get up. If I, on a rare occasion sleep until the afternoon, I will feel like a day has been wasted. Almost.

Call me a night owl. I love to stay up late, and now that I’m blogging I get tons done when the house is quiet. That also seems to be when the creativity kicks in.

Night Owl Barbara and you ‘love’ to stay up. Wow, sometimes I have to stay up, but I’m not loving it.
