Lana, I agree, the extras probably do bring in more money for the dealership when they break. Better is relative, but at times it's "hard" not to want "better" for yourself...sometimes I get back in my car, after being in something nicer, and I feel like I've just been demoted. Man, your car was used in a robbery, I probably would feel the same way...violated.

You mean they didn't disclose the car's history Robin, that's just sneaky. I used a service to look up all the VIN numbers of the cars I was interested in to see their history...I was fortunate enough to find vehicles that were not in crashes, just used.

TOPolk..nope, especially when it's paid for. I do love that it's reliable and it doesn't cost me much, even if doesn't have the latest stuff. The butt warmer is right up my alley, in the winter anyway.

Corrina, I know that is the best part. I have to remember that..no more payments. Yeah, shhh lets not talk about our paid for cars before they hear us and blow up. lol. I wonder how many miles I have left on the old girl. I could move up in car, but it will be done with cash. I work on top of a mountain and going up those hills everyday...I wonder about a more powerful engine and passing people.

There's nothing wrong with loving your car. No matter what condition its in.

My first car was a 92 Buick. It was a HUGE car and drank a lot of gas. I loved him (it was definitely a guy car) as if I wanted to go, he took me. Until he just couldn't go no 'mo. I've since purchased his little sister and while I love her (maybe a little more -- shh...) there are times I want to go back to my old car.

I'm rambling. My apologies. :-)

Love your car. It's okay to look at other cars, but remember that you only go home with the one you love.

(sidenote: butt warmers suck. I live in the South. Its hot as hell in the summer and winter's never below 60. Talk about an unnecessary add-on)

I bought a bright orange second-hand Toyota Corolla coupe from a car yard years ago and the paint-work was in excellent condition. As I arrived home 20 mins away the engine was overheating. It was the head gasket, and they did replace it, after some arguing. Then it transpired the car had been in a major smash - no wonder the paint was good.

I called it my orange lemon after that. - Robin

Remember the days when a computer wasn't required to determine &/or fix engine problems? All of those fancy, "new" extras are just there to bring in dealerships more money when they break. I'd give almost anything for a car with manual windows--but those didn't break enough to make anyone any money, so now ALL windows are electric (aka; crap.) Don't be jealous. Don't get caught up in the illusion of "better." Better is VERY relative!
Years ago my Intrepid was stolen in Toronto & used in 2 armed robberies. It wasn't totalled, so I got it back with all of the sense of violation & indignation that went with it. I never took the same, meticulous care of it again. After all, why bother? In a sense, I WISH it'd been hit & totalled when it was parked. <:( Ironically, it was the only thing I lost to Hurricane Katrina.
Funny how our cars become a part of our lives. Almost like pets...

hey barbara...smiling is good, except when you're evil. it is tough so lets blame temporary insanity.

jay, sometimes i can use a warm seat especially when my lower back is aching, but i'll stick with my heating pad and one very long extension cord. pollen filter? what the? wow. how do you hit a parked car, why not a tree? funny thing is i know a few people who have either done it or had it happen to them.

meleah, that would be my next choice, the hyundai santa fe. i don't care what people say, i like it. i drove a sonata in florida once and i thought they gave me a jaguar by mistake. i was going to tell them....when i got to my destination, but turns out it was a hyundai..i was loving it too.

thanks rmr. remind me not to get in your car come this winter. it's good on gas for sure..no complaints there, just want a faster engine and a sunroof and well, uh some shocks

shilpan, i had to reprogram myself after being taught how to identify investments and which way they should go...i know better but it doesn't mean i still don't suffer from moments of weakness...just dreaming out loud a little.

robert bourne, very low maintenance. it doesn't ask questions. it always starts, so what i come in last, i get there, eventually.

Years ago, my dad gave me advice that has worked so well for me. He told me to buy things that go up in value over the time ( House, rental property etc.). Car never goes up in value no matter how pretty it looks. So, I always buy few years old car with less than 30K miles. This saves me lots of $$$ and allows me to pay them off quickly.

I agree with you though that these brochures are made to create envy in our mind. :)

The heated seats only apply to leather and only in the winter. I have heated seats but only becasue the darn car doesn't come with cloth seats because if it did I wouldn't have gotten the leather seats. Nowadays you need a car that is good on gas. In my opinon, yours is good on gas, and its paid for. Like you've said in the past you just need it to take you from here to there.
