Tondy, I think my mother likes to buy things on sale...stuff she doesn't need. I give her the evil eye like I'm the parent.

Cool....a little bit grows into enough.

LOL, I like the "buying things on sale" because I have a friend addicted to sale stuff. I keep telling her that if she doesn't need it she shouldn't buy it - there are sales everyday. Thank you because I need to pay myself first too and the emergency fund is definitely a must.

<em>Tondy's last blog post..<a href='http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/tondie/~3/259426835/in-cold-i-lay.html' rel="nofollow">In the Cold I lay!</a></em>

Hi Barbara, It really is kind of scary. I listen to a lot of, mostly women, who call in to a radio show who don't know anything about the finances because hubby always took care of it..now he's gone or dead and they don't know what to do. It's a lot to deal with on top of everything else when you have to figure it all out in a short amount of time.

Gaida, it is frightening. I made mistakes in not being prepared for emergencies and it hurt me...in addition to just trying to make ends see each other..not even meet..you just don't have the money to build nothing, but it's necessary or you will always be stuck.

True, the library is free, to me. Why not educate yourself, we all need to learn how to manage our finances.
Thanks for sharing.

It's frightening to think of how many people do not have an emergency fund. Even if they put away $5 a week... it starts to mount up.

Allow yourself an amount of 'Sanity' money each week to do with what you want. You are less likely to blow that budget if you do.

It's important to educate yourself concerning finances... With all the available info there is no reason for having your head stuck in the sand! I've tried to pass on the info I've learnt to my son... but of course he's at that age when it's in one pocket & out the other.

Though I do give him credit this week.... the novelty of his mobile phone has worn off.. a bit anyway... & he is making it last much longer now!

And definitely...If you don't need it.. it's not on sale. If you think you really need it.. give yourself a 24 hour break to think it over... you'd be surprised that the 'need' wasn't after all!

Ni Natural Woman,

That is so true about not being in the dark about finances. And, if one partner is using finances as a control issue, that's a huge red flag.
