Some Like It Hot
WEST ORANGE, N.J. (AP) — Soaring temperatures are leaving tens of thousands of New Jerseyans without electricity on one of the hottest days of the year. Full Story Here.
I work in West Orange and the last time we had a power outage, we were sent home. You should have seen me running from the building before the power was restored and we were called back. It happened again today, but this time only for a few seconds.
The power goes out several times during the summer in Maplewood or whenever there is a lightening storm, but today only half of the town is without power. Surrounding schools were dismissed early and there is already an early dismissal for school tomorrow.
I don’t have central air, but 2 air conditioners and I’m considering moving the kitchen into the bedroom. It’s too hot to be cooking in a room with no air and just look what the heat has done to our poor hamster:
It reached 99 degrees in N. NJ today, right now it’s 97. What’s the temperature like where you are and btw, where are you?

Your hamster passed out, that’s so sad. I live in Panama and it’s really hot here, so I know what you’re going through. A friend of mine was walking his dog the other day and the poor dog passed out (like your hamster).

Oh no! Your poor hamster! <:(
It’s 90F with humidity here in S. Louisiana at 7pm. It’s been cooler than usual these days. I’m seriously not looking forward to August & the 120F days…every day, when central air runs constantly & cools the house to 90F or so, if we’re lucky. Blarg…

I feel for you. It’s been summer here for almost 3 months already but it’s typical for here. We are just shy of 11″ under where we should be with precipitation and everything is dry like straw.
Make sure you drink plenty of water, wear light colored clothing, and stay where it’s cool if at all possible.
Can you imagine what it will be like in August if it’s 100 in early June - OMG!
Stay Safe.

Yep, he’s feeling the heat. I thought about taking him to work with me Marelisa, but he could freeze to death there. Panama, wow!
Too bad he can’t shed his fur, Lana. He’s drinking a lot more than usual. Right now he should be okay, he’s in one of the rooms with the AC. I always enjoy your pics from Louisiana. Excuse me 120F…is the F for fried? Whoa, that’s hot. I’ve been in a sauna with temps a little higher than that, but I couldn’t stay in it.
MamaFlo, just said hello to you on Cre8buzz. Oh yeah, I stay in the air during the day 99 reasons to go to work and like it: AC. When I get home though, the air is hot, thick and not moving…not a breeze. Now I’m thinking about your pool and how nice it would be in this weather.
You too.
Natural: Don’t they sell little sweaters for hamsters like they do for dogs?

Hi Natural,
I do not like it when it’s that hot. Fortunately I’m in Oregon and our daytime temps are currently in 60’s.

Marelisa, I should hope not, but I bet you there is a hamster out there with some clothes or accessories.
Barbara, you’re in Oregon, didn’t know that. 60 sounds nice right now. It’s not even 6:30 a.m. and it’s already 80 degrees here. The temps will cool off later tonight/tomorrow. I don’t mind 80, but don’t want to wake up to it. Could be worse, not really complaining.
A lot of heat for EARLY early Spring summer- saves on the laundry bill wink wink and guess what cold food is very appealing however 93 in Spring Lake Fl. My mom was 107 in Philadelphia this weekend..sk

Wow, that’s hot! Here in Chicago, the weather has been fluctuating. Hot one day, cold the next day. It’s safe to say that there are plenty of of sick people walking around the city.

Oh.. That’s so.. sad.
I suppose there’s nothing much we can do about the weather.
Here’s hoping things would be better in the coming days

Haha, funny. I just got back from a weekend in NJ and CT and the whole time everyone kept complaining, “It’s so hot.” “We’re having a heatwave.”
Yes. 100 degrees in New Haven, CT is abnormal. But 100 degrees in CT is not as bad as 95 degrees down south. When I got back to Charlotte the Queen City welcomed me with open arms and 95 degree heat WITH humidity.
Right now (2:30am) its about 80 degrees outside (once again with humidity) in good ‘ol Clemson.
Though I will tip my hats to you guys. I don’t know how you live without central air conditioning. Its essential down here as if you open the windows, you’re just letting more hot air in.
I’m in NYC so the temperature is similar. It has become somewhat unbearable. However, it could be worse.
Wink, Wink Sandy..I got it. 107 in Philly. Oh My Word!
Confused, I’ll be coming your way in August, try to cool the place down a bit before I get there.
Chris, I would imagine the weather being hot in Chicago, but I would take the fluctuation, mix it up a little bit.
Shamelle, it cooled off today, but not before the storm last night. Lots of trees were down, street signs were blown away, including my street. School was closed and we were told to stay inside. Yeah right. lol
TOPolk, oh yeah 3 days of high temps in a row and we start crying like babies. The schools don’t even have central air. I guess they forgot about an early Summer when they were building the buildings?
Urban, a few more degrees and our pet fish would have been fillet. I don’t want to know worse. I do like the sun and the heat, but this is oven hot.

Oh that poor hamster! LOL I’m in central California and it’s 97 degrees today. We don’t really get seasons here, just hot and cold. Other parts of the state do though.

Okay Amy, don’t blow any hot air over my way…I can deal with the temps now, high 80’s. I think I may talk a walk outside right now.
Corrina, I have never seen him sleep that way until it got hot. I was like what the..then I had to get my camera. It was hot enough that death seemed like a better option. 6 feet under in a cool box.
