Why I Hate Halloween

There are so many reasons why I don’t like this holiday. Here’s a short list:

  1. Most of the movies shown in October are horror movies. I’m scared.
  2. The holiday can have a demonic or magical overtone. This freightens me.
  3. It’s a commercial based holiday just to get your money. I’m already broke.
  4. I read the origin of Halloween. I’m not impressed.
  5. What or who are we honoring again? The Dead?

I know, I’m being an ogre, a killjoy, a party pooper and I’m supposed to go with the flow, but I’m sure I can sit this one out.

Signed,
Happy Shallow Queen!

You get no argument here - I don’t particularly like Halloween either. It used to be fun for the little kids not its just dangerous.

Doubly with you because in Australia, this is an American cultural icon that is encroaching on our culture. Please understand I’m not anti-American :) - I have many dear friends in and from the States.

I just don’t get why Aussies allow their kids to wander around the streets alone, annoying the neighbours for candy and chocolate and egging people’s houses if they don’t pay up. It’s a kind of stand-over tactic.

Anyhow, that’s my rant for the day. (And I agree wholeheartedly on all of your points above)

Thank you, Natural!! I hate H’ween, too, and I always try to find something to do away from the house so I don’t have to deal with trick or treaters. What’s up about a holiday that centers around sending children begging for candy?? And I’m so tired of horror movies for the whole month of October. ** It’s a sure sign it’s a rotten holiday when there are no charity efforts to send Halloween candy to orphans or children in Darfur or similar. Grrr. :P
